Running it
The Hobart 6035202 ER70S-6 welding wire is a premium copper-coated MIG welding wire engineered for GMAW applications across a wide range of steel fabrication and repair tasks. This solid carbon steel wire features a specialized deoxidizing alloy formulation with higher levels of silicon and manganese compared to standard wires, allowing it to burn through surface contaminants like light rust, mill scale, and oils that would otherwise compromise weld integrity. The copper coating not only enhances electrical conductivity for smoother arc performance but also protects the wire from atmospheric corrosion during storage, ensuring consistent feedability through the welding gun and reducing the likelihood of burnback or nozzle clogging during operation. Designed for versatility, this Hobart wire performs exceptionally well on a variety of base metals including mild and carbon steel, making it a go-to choice for automotive repair, general fabrication, farm equipment maintenance, and structural steel work. Welders appreciate the smooth, spatter-reducing arc characteristics that come from its precise alloy chemistry, which also contributes to excellent bead appearance and tie-in at the weld toes. The wire is compatible with both CO2 and argon-CO2 shielding gas mixtures, giving fabricators flexibility depending on the specific application, penetration requirements, and desired mechanical properties of the finished weld. Packaged for convenience and shop efficiency, the Hobart 6035202 typically comes on a spool sized to fit standard wire feed welders without requiring special adapters or modifications. Its consistent diameter tolerance and uniform winding help minimize feeding issues, tangles, and bird-nesting that can plague lower-quality wires, translating into less downtime and more productive welding sessions. Whether used by hobbyist welders working on home projects or professional fabricators handling high-volume production runs, this ER70S-6 wire delivers the reliability, strength, and weld quality that has made Hobart a trusted name in the welding equipment industry for generations.
The Hobart 6035202 ER70S-6 wire is a dependable choice for hobbyists and professionals doing structural and general fabrication MIG welding on mild steel. Its smooth feed characteristics, low spatter, and strong bead appearance make it a solid all-around wire, especially given its competitive price for a large 44 lb spool.

Used this on my Hobart 210 MVP and it fed flawlessly. Very little spatter and the welds came out clean with good penetration on 3/8 inch plate.
Bought this for a fabrication project and it performed well. Only issue was the spool was a bit heavy to mount on my smaller feeder, but wire quality itself was excellent.
I've run several spools of this wire through my Millermatic and it never disappoints. Arc stability is great and bead appearance is very clean.
Works great for general repair and fabrication work. Slight rust formed on the outer wraps after a humid summer, so storage matters, but performance was still good.
Switched from another brand and noticed less spatter and smoother feeding right away. Highly recommend for anyone doing mild steel MIG work.
